Project BEETHOVEN

BEETHOVEN project on food and mental wellbeing kicks off in September 2026

Newly Horizon Europe-funded project links brain, environment, and ecosystems to develop evidence-based nutritional guidelines

We are proud to announce our role as a key partner in Beethoven, an EU Horizon-funded project looking to revolutionizing mental health through nutrition and holistic science. Coordinated by Universität für Weiterbildung Krems (UWK) under the scientific leadership of Dr. Matthias Pilecky, BEETHOVEN officially launches in September 2026 to address one of Europe’s most pressing public health challenges: mental wellbeing.

BEETHOVEN aims to transform prevention and management by exploring the intricate relationship between diet, the gut microbiome, and brain function, a nexus increasingly recognised as central to mental health and diet-gut-brain interactions.

Mental health disorders affect 17% of the EU population, according to the Europe Office the World Health Organization.

BEETHOVEN unites 13 partners from 9 countries in a multidisciplinary effort, with the aim to map key food groups, nutrients, and dietary patterns linked to mental health, to develop dietary strategies and personalized guidelines.
